Training Start Guide

First of all, welcome to the TLB team! You’re now part of a growing family of ballerinas and ballet enthusiasts from around the globe increasing strength, flexibility and confidence. With an entire team of professionals behind you ensuring you are staying on track and training correctly, we have no doubt you’re going to kick some serious ballerina goals. We know it can be daunting starting a new fitness program or implementing a new workout regime. Whether you’re a professional dancer or you’re taking your very first plié, this guide will help you navigate the TLB app. 


Train Like a Ballerina was founded by Louisa Paterson in 2021. After a successful 10 year career as a professional ballerina and over 6 years studying and training world leading ballerinas in Europe, she decided to hang up her pointe shoes and take her training and the TLB method online. This allowed her to reach a far larger audience of not just pre-professional and professional dancers but non-dancers as well. Her dream; To bring world class ballet training to the world. Thousands have now adopted the TLB training method and with the accessibility of the TLB app, you can now train like a ballerina anywhere and anytime.

Although we’re thrilled at how fast the community is growing, we are a very small team and are learning everything as we go. We’ve made mistakes but we also believe we’re carving a new path of unique ballet training online, so we hope you’ll be patient with us as we continue to lead the way in ballet inspired fitness training.  We’re excited to learn and share all of this with you as we go and to take you on the journey with us!   • Familiarise yourself with the TLB app to get the most out of the incredible features.
  • Enrol in ONE program and always go for a slightly easier level of program than you think.
  • Use the program as a guide and listen to your body.
  • Train with a friend. Statistics show those who do a program with a friend have far more chance of sticking to it than those who do not
  • Track your progress. Photos, notes or a goal setting journal. This is to show yourself how far you’ve come on the days you forget.
  • Blast some epic MUSIC.
  • Take your REST days seriously – they’re just as important as the training days.
  • Ensure you’re consuming enough nutrient dense FOOD.


Train Like a Ballerina has over 250 individual workouts and 1700 ballet inspired exercises, 4 professional trainers and 12 programs! 
As wonderful as that is, it can make knowing where to start really challenging. We recommend starting by enrolling in one of the many incredible programs. The programs on TLB range from 2 weeks to 3 months. You can choose from strength, flexibility or full body focused or simply pick a monthly program at your level of fitness. Select your start date in the program and click enrol. All of the workouts for your program will now appear in your personalised calendar in the right corner of your app under the calendar icon. Simply open up each day and select your workout to train. Although we do not recommend it, you can enrol in multiple programs at the same time. You can also go back into the program and click un-enrol to leave that program or to select a new start date.

If following a program isn’t your thing you can type into the search bar at the top what trainer you would like to train with or what kind of workout you’d like to do. This will show all available workouts in that section. You can also favourite your top workouts by clicking the grey heart in each workout. You’ll know if a workout is in your favourites if the grey heart turns orange. Your favourites will now appear in your favourite section. You can access this by clicking on the heart icon in the top right corner of your home page.
