‘Ballerinas are the the athletes of god’ quoted so evidently by Albert Einstein, but the pain we must endure to become one is such that often I had my self questioning, is it really worth it? Much like many dancers gracing the world stages today during my career I suffered from numerous injuries, eating disorders, body dysmorphia and many other physical and emotional scars that I will carry with me throughout the rest of my life. Among that my body was physically never strong enough and to my dismay, and countless cries and searches for help, I could never find a person or platform to educate me so I could live a healthier, happier life of a dancer.
The high demand of dance is that of the highest elite athletes, but generally without the financial backing or educated staff, leading to dancers suffering tremendous injuries, careers being cut far to short (of an already skip-of-a-heart-beat career) and dancers retiring from the stage with far more emotional pain than joy.
I decided to stop questioning and start answering myself. What food did I need to fuel my bod? How exactly does my body function? What muscles do I use with each movement my body makes? My questions led to the beginning of my studies at University studying Chemistry and Biology and Science of the Human body, resulting in me finding my passion in the studies in Strength and performance coaching and Nutrition. Although I’ve finished my studies at University my quest to learn as much as I can to help educate others has only just begun. The more I learn the more I find repeating to myself ‘If only I knew this earlier’.
My vision is to create not just an online platform for every girl, woman and dancer but an entire community, where women from all around the world can come and be supported, inspired and educated. A place to turn to for not just advice but delicious recipes, workouts and articles and interviews to not just inspire you but teach you the tricks of the trade from the top health professionals, teachers and dancers and women from around the world.
The movement of TrainLikeaBallerina has just begun. I hope you are all as excited as me!
